Possible Mistakes When Designing Your Own Logo

August 22nd, 2011

Designinig your own logo may appear at first glance to be an easy task, especially considering the myriads of internet sites offering advice and – sometimes free – reems of clipart. However, the process is far more complicated than many people realise, and often the work involved as well as possible consequences of mistakes are truly underestimated.

Common mistakes made include such things as far too many, often inappropriate colours, being used. Too many colours are overpowering and distracting, while unsuitable colours can not only point potential customers in the wrong direction (design industry uses a set of standard colours depending on the type of business), but may also be a downright turn – off for people (colour psychology is an important aspect of design).

Other mistakes lie in the application of shapes or lines. A clipart shape, for instance, may look great, but will probably also be used by many others, reducing individuality drastically. A line too tick/ thin, or placed in the wrong place or at a wrong angle, can seriously reduce impact and look unprofessional, as can an inappropriate font.

A professional designer knows how to avoid these mistakes and create your perfect, instantly recognisable logo anytime.
