Bulk email marketing

February 16th, 2011

Contrary to popular belief, email marketing is not about spamming. Even though it allows you to send bulk email marketing; it still pays out to target your bulk email sends. However, it’s important to note that, more than emails not being read or opened; email messages that are done hastily can also do much to harm your business’s reputation.

Bulk emails Reputation in an online space is vital these days and we all know how quickly word-of-mouth travels amidst the various social networking sites. Just the other day there was havoc around a rumor spread on Twitter that Nelson Mandela had died.

Recently, Yahoo changed their take on the ‘From’ address and have now decided to monitor it. So yes, this means that each of the email addresses you use under your domain name will now be monitored for their own reputation. Sending spam from just one address can be detrimental to your email marketing reputation. Many senders (who’ve had whitelist status for years) have now been seeing their emails sent from certain addresses landing in the spam folder.

Senders that use multiple ‘from’ addresses could experience some deliverability issues if any one of those addresses has a bad reputation.

Now with these changes it is increasingly important to consider how much good (and bad) bulk email marketing messages can do. You don’t want to ruin your reputation by being careless. Ensure that you stick to email marketing codes of conduct and that you sign up with a reputable email marketing company.

Choose an email service provider that offers delivery management, detailed statistical reports, feedback loops, their own dedicated or a shared server, and a spam checker. Most importantly though; steer clear of spamming to uphold and protect your reputation, and ensure good list management to keep your reports as accurate as possible and to save costs!
